Mr J Christian, Principal Latest Letter to Parents

12th July 2017

Dear Parent/Carer

It was a pleasure to welcome and meet with the parents of our new Year 7 cohort last week and we are looking forward to welcoming our new students to Colne Valley High School when they join us for their Transition Week on Monday 17th July.

We also welcomed a group of students from some of our feeder schools last week, who came to demonstrate their fantastic French language skills. The confidence they displayed and their ability was truly fantastic and I’d like to say well done to every student who took part.  I would also like to express my gratitude to our Languages Department for organising this event and to the primary schools who prepared their students so well.  I believe that it is vitally important that we continue to develop and strengthen our links with our primary feeder schools as we have so much to share and learn from each other.

Our ‘old’ Year 11 students, the ‘Class of 2017’, celebrated the end of High School at their Leavers’ Ball on Friday 7th July.  The students dressed to impress and conducted themselves with such maturity as they enjoyed a three course meal and danced the night away alongside members of staff who have supported them during their time at Colne Valley High School.  One student reported “it was the best night of my life; I never wanted it to end”!

Last week, Huddersfield Town Ambassador, Andy Booth, visited the school and brought with him the Play-Off Winner’s trophy. Andy spoke with a group of students and expressed his support of our own ‘#nolimits’ mantra and many students had the opportunity to have photographs taken with the trophy. We hope to build on this relationship with Huddersfield Town as we strengthen our links within the local community.

Many of our Year 11 students had the opportunity to visit Huddersfield New College last week to experience what life would be like as a student at their college. Again, I was delighted to receive such positive feedback from the college about our students’ behaviour and attitude on the day.  The college reported that our students behaved impeccably.

I believe it is also essential that we work closely with our community; the people and businesses within it. Throughout last week I held meetings with representatives from Colne Valley Museum and Local Councillors. In addition, our school Careers Advisors met with other local business owners to discuss plans as to how we can develop links with employers in our local community.  Our aim is to create a steering group of people who can work together to develop these links. If there are any parents/carers who would be interested in joining this group, please contact our Careers Advisor, Sam Hardcastle, using the following email address; Your support would be greatly appreciated.

I would like to remind parents/carers that I welcome your feedback and should anyone wish to come into school for a visit then please make an appointment with Ms S Middleton (PA to the Principal). Ms Middleton can be contacted using the email address

Yours sincerely

Mr J.S Christian
