Latest Letter to Parents - 4th July 2017

J Christian, Principal

Dear Parent/Carer

This week saw the publication of the Ofsted Report following our inspection last month. It is a significant achievement moving a large school out of Special Measures and I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the hard work of my staff in doing so. Colne Valley High School regressed after the previous Ofsted Inspection due to a significant turnover in staff and uncertainty about its future. It was not until September 2015, that we had a full complement of teaching staff enabling gains to be made more quickly. I cannot over-emphasise the complexity of moving a school the size of Colne Valley High, from this inadequate position. The judgement ‘Requires Improvement’ is a huge step forward and affords us a secure platform on which to build from and reflects our own evaluation of where the school stands at the present moment in time. We expect much improved GCSE results this year, which will provide greater evidence of the improvements made across the school and will help our journey towards ’good’ as quickly as possible. Overall, there is a lot that we can be proud of in the school; this latest report is very clear in highlighting the many ‘Good’ aspects of our provision, but our task is to ensure that our whole provision is consistently good or better.

I would like to pass on my acknowledgment to Mrs Skivington and the Performing Arts team on delivering the excellent Summer Concert last week. Almost 100 students took part in the showcase over the two evenings and it was lovely to see the amazing talents of our students on show. Well done to everyone who took part. Thank you must also go to those staff who helped out behind the scenes.

On a different note, I am aware that some of our parents are having difficulty getting through to reception via the telephone. To alleviate this we are having an additional telephone line installed which should help. In addition, we have set up the following email account that is checked frequently by Senior Staff – - to help ease the pressure.

As always, thank you for your support and please keep communicating your ideas to improve communication between home and school.

Yours sincerely

J S Christian (Mr)
