Colne Valley High School: Ofsted Report 2017
We have now received the report from Ofsted following our recent inspection which I am pleased to share with you.
The school is rated ‘Requires Improvement’. This judgement reflects the significant progress made by the school since the previous inspection. This is the judgement we expected given the low starting point and the fact that last year’s results were not where we wanted them to be and hence could not be graded as better than ‘requiring improvement’.
Since becoming an Academy in September 2014, we have worked hard to drive up standards. There are many things that the inspection team considered good, such as:
‘The quality of teaching is improving and, as a result, more pupils are making good progress.’
‘There are good opportunities for pupils to take on leadership roles to support their personal development.’
‘Pupils say that they are safe in school.’
‘The curriculum is effective in supporting pupils’ learning and their personal development, behaviour and welfare.’
‘There is good support for students’ well-being’.
‘Most pupils conduct themselves well throughout the day. The school is an orderly environment.’
‘The most-able pupils make effective progress in comparison to similar pupils nationally’.
Our key area of focus is stated in the first bullet point of the Ofsted report: ‘The progress pupils are making is not consistently good as the quality of teaching is variable across and within subjects’. Therefore, this will be the key priority moving forward. The report can be found on: http://www.thecvhs.co.uk/docs/OFSTED/Colne_Valley_High_School_Ofsted_Report_-_June_2017.pdf
We would like to acknowledge the support that the school has received from The MFG Multi- Academy Trust and thank all Staff, Governors and Parents for their continued support. We think this report provides clear guidance for the school to improve quickly and we look forward to working with the new Senior Leadership Team in accelerating the rate of progress.
