Principal's Latest Letter to Parents

10th October 2017

Dear Parent / Carer

I would like to open by congratulating our Year 11 students on completing a successful week of work experience. I have received some extremely positive feedback from employers, who generously provided the placements, and my sincere thanks goes to them all.  We believe the opportunity to experience the world of work is invaluable and last year we re-introduced work experience. I believe students gain valuable life skills that will not only benefit them in their preparations for the GCSE examinations, but makes them more employable and gives them an advantage when attending interviews with colleges.  There are so many opportunities for our students within our local community and I will endeavour to build upon these links.  Last week, I met with ‘Pride in Linthwaite’; a group of local residents who strive for a better community to live in.  I would like to draw your attention to the work they do by viewing their Facebook pages – ‘Pride in Linthwaite’ and ‘Keeping Linthwaite and its surroundings tidy’.

We have just completed our first round of data collection, which, once standardised, allows us to prepare our Creating Futures 1 reports for parents. For the benefit of our Year 7 parents, we provide information to parents about the progress that their child is making, and their attitude to learning, three times a year (CF1-3). The attitude grade is extremely important as attitude and achievement are inextricably linked. Your child will receive their Creating Futures 1 report very soon.  I would encourage all parents / carers to discuss these reports with their children, celebrate the successes and discuss any issues which may be affecting their performance.  Please do not hesitate to contact subject teachers directly if you have any concerns regarding the progress that your child is making in a particular subject.  As a reminder, members of staff can be contacted by email using the format  Alternatively, you can email school using the and your email will be forwarded to the appropriate member of staff.

On Thursday 5th October we held our annual Open Evening, and I am proud to report that almost 200 of our current students gave up their time to provide such warmth and enthusiasm to the hundreds of visitors that came through our doors that evening.  This was supported by our staff body who shared their love of learning and enthusiasm for our school.  The effort that was made to deliver such a successful showcase is testament to the commitment of our staff to drive standards and care for our students.  Since Thursday, I have received numerous emails congratulating the school on delivering such an inspiring evening, with the general theme recognising the positivity around learning.  A prospective parent, who is also a teacher wrote: “The highlight was the energy and creativity of the departments.  From a teacher’s perspective, having being involved in many Open Evenings, last night raised the bar. Well done and thank you”.

As always, thank you for your continuing support, together we are stronger.

Yours sincerely

J Christian (Mr) Principal
