Principal's latest letter to parents
12th December 2017
As we embark upon our penultimate week of the autumn term, I would like to make you aware of two key events that are taking place this week. On Wednesday 13th December at 6.00pm, we are holding our first Carol Service at Christ Church, Linthwaite. Students from Colne Valley High School and Marsden Junior School will be performing in collaboration to bring you this special Christmas event. We hope this will provide you and the community with an opportunity to come together to enjoy the festive season with carol singing, musical performances and readings, delivered by our young students. Our vision for the future is that all local primary schools will join us for the 2018 Carol Service.
On Thursday 14th December at 7.00pm, our annual school Christmas concert takes place in the school’s Theatre. Expect this year’s concert to be an uplifting start to the most wonderful time of the year! The concert will feature all of your favourite ensembles, including Vocal Academy, Dance Academy, Drama Academy, plus one or two surprises along the way! Tickets can be purchased from the school shop for £5.00 per adult and £3.00 per concession. It would be wonderful to see parents and carers attend these events and join with me in celebrating both the talents of our students and the festive season.
In our final week, there will be a number of events taking place in school including the end of term Celebration Assemblies which recognises the consistent high level of performance by our students. We will also be holding our annual Xmas Factor talent competition, which invites students to take to the stage and compete for the 2017 title of ‘The Winner of the Xmas Factor’. This is a very popular event amongst our students and is now in its 10th year!
Last week, we had Business students out of school on trips to two local companies; Thornton & Ross in Linthwaite and Syngenta in Huddersfield. These visits gave our students an insight into these successful local businesses and provided links to the classroom theory that they study during their Business Studies lessons in school. My thanks goes to both companies for allowing our students to visit.
As you will be aware, improving communication with our stakeholders has been a priority of ours throughout this term. In October, parents were sent a ‘Data Collection Sheet’ to update and return to school with any changes to your child’s personal details. If you have not yet done so, please return these forms as soon as possible to ensure our records are up to date. In addition to this, we are now being asked to collate information on any student who has historically been classed as ‘looked after’ or has been in ‘foster care’ or similar. If your child falls into either of these two categories, please can you inform Mrs Wink using the email address; firstname.lastname@example.org so that we can ensure they receive the full support that they are entitled to. From posts made on Facebook, I am also aware that it can sometimes be difficult getting through to school via the telephone, especially during peak times. In response, I am pleased to report that we have appointed a second Receptionist to school, Mrs K McManus, who is settling into her new role and should help to alleviate this problem.
As a reminder, school closes at 1.15pm on Thursday 21st December for Christmas, at which time school buses will arrive to take students home. Please contact school if the earlier finish causes you any problems or concerns.
In closing, I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very relaxing and enjoyable Christmas and a Happy New Year. I look forward to welcoming all of our amazing students back to Colne Valley High School on Monday 8th January 2018.
Thank you for your continuing support; together we are stronger.
Mr J Christian
